Getting started with the coverage amount

Choosing the right coverage amount for drone insurance sounds simple at first, like just picking a number and moving on. But then I picture my drone tipping into a tree, or clipping a roof edge, and suddenly that number feels real. I start asking basic questions. What would it cost to replace the drone. What if it hits someone’s car. What if I’m flying for a small paid job and I mess up a client’s property.

I keep circling back to one thing. The “right” amount is not about being fancy, it’s about not getting stuck paying a huge bill alone. If I mostly fly in open fields, my risk feels smaller. If I fly near people, houses, roads, or events, the risk jumps fast. And liability is the scary part because it can get expensive quick even from one mistake.

Quick wrap up

I pick coverage by thinking about where I actually fly, what damage could happen there, and what I could afford to pay out of pocket if things go bad. When that worst case number is way bigger than my savings, that’s when higher coverage starts making sense.
